Win on the field of play by staying anchored in yourself
Whether you’re pursuing a college athletic scholarship or a triathlon personal record, our clinically-grounded and highly personalized approach to sport psychology helps athletes build an identity that enhances performance and withstands setbacks, moving you from surviving to thriving.

- Loss of confidence due to losing a starting spot or getting cut from the team
- Difficulty facing the next meet, match or game after a tough loss
- Inability to perform as you know you can, like missing a putt or falling on a dismount

Our Approach to Sport Psychology
Confluence has developed the innovative RePlay Framework to focus on an athlete’s core identity, confidence, and the sport-related relationships they need to flourish across their sport experiences in training, practice and competition.
What We Believe about Athlete Identity

Our RePlay Framework is grounded in the belief that performance is an outcome, but an athlete’s core identity is the engine of their entire sport experience.
We believe:
- Highly driven athletes don’t underperform because they lack toughness, effort or discipline.
- Athletes struggle when pressure, comparison, injury or setbacks begin to define them, and they feel like they no longer know who they are within their sport.
- Confidence that’s built only on results becomes fragile under stress and adversity, which every athlete experiences at some point. “Mental toughness” doesn’t carry them through obstacles over time.
- When an athlete’s identity is strong and secure, their performance becomes more consistent, resilient and fun — even at the highest levels of play.
Working from these beliefs, Confluence helps athletes develop a steady sense of self that holds firm in competition, allowing them to think clearly, take smart risks, and recover quickly from mistakes.
How We’ll Work Together
Sport psychology clients work with Confluence founder Spencer Kilpatrick, who blends clinical expertise with lived experience as a lifelong athlete. This combination provides psychological precision and a deep understanding of competitive environments.
- We start with a free 15-minute introductory session.
- Subsequent sessions are 55 minutes and held virtually, allowing athletes to meet from anywhere they have the privacy to speak openly and focus fully.
- We use evidence-based methods and guided experiential exercises to help athletes process setbacks, regulate pressure, and strengthen the internal identity foundation that drives consistent performance.
- Our sessions are structured and collaborative. Most athletes begin to notice meaningful shifts in confidence and clarity within the first 4–6 sessions.
- Many clients choose to continue for 8 sessions or more to solidify the gains they’ve made and build lasting resilience across a season or competitive cycle.
What You’ll Learn as an Athlete
Athletes who work with Confluence learn to compete at a high level without their confidence rising and falling with every result. Our work strengthens your identity as an athlete, so performance pressure doesn’t shake your sense of self.
Athletes develop practical skills to:
- Regulate emotion
- Recover quickly from mistakes
- Access competitive intensity when it matters most
You’ll also learn how relationships with coaches, teammates and parents can influence your performance, and how to keep those dynamics steady and supportive.
The result is more consistent play, clearer thinking under pressure, and resilience across your entire season — and longer

Guidance for Parents of Student-Athletes

Parents are the primary guides and supporters for their student-athletes as they pursue sport aspirations, academics and life goals. Sometimes, mothers and fathers need help navigating their parent-child relationships, too.
Confluence works with parents, individually or in group settings, to help you build secure, resilient connections with your sons and daughters and nurture their insight skills.
Our approach teaches you as a parent how to support your student-athletes as they strive for reliable performance on the field of play and clear decision-making for athletic, academic and life goals.

Support for Dedicated Adult Athletes

For adult athletes, being a lifelong runner, a golfer, bowler or other type of competitor is a core part of who you are, whether as an individual or within sports leagues.
But balancing your identity as a dedicated adult athlete with other important parts of life — like family and career — can be challenging, especially for people who want to compete for as long as possible.
Confluence works with adult athletes to help you balance your sport with family, career and any other important areas so that your sport stays a refuge, not a source of burnout.
