Our Story
Confluence Mind and Motion is a performance-focused sport psychology practice for athletes who want to compete at a higher, more consistent level and sustain that performance under pressure.
Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
we work with dedicated athletes who want to excel in their sport, from high schoolers pursuing college scholarships to adult amateurs balancing marathons with career and family. We also help parents learn how to provide a secure base as they guide their child’s athletic aspirations and life goals.
We know the science, the sweat, and the importance of self-identity.
We combine the psychological rigor of licensed clinical expertise with deep empathy from years of playing youth, college and adult sports, plus coaching athletes of all ages.
We focus on athlete identity

Our approach is built on a simple truth that’s often overlooked: sport performance is the outcome, but an athlete’s core identity is what allows them to excel on the field of play.
Athletes don’t underperform because they lack toughness, effort or discipline. They underperform when they become disconnected from their sense of self and feel like they no longer know who they are as an athlete.
For athletes, an identity crisis can be triggered by disruptions like injuries, the loss of a roster spot, or intense pressure to perform. Sometimes an athlete’s sense of who they are becomes fully blended with the final score.
In all these situations, athletes can become increasingly anxious, their confidence becomes brittle, and their execution and performance suffer.
We move athletes from surviving to thriving
At Confluence, our approach is grounded in proven psychological fundamentals, including attachment theory, developmental psychology, and clinical mental health training.
We use that clinical expertise to help athletes build a strong, solid identity at the level where they form and sustain performance habits.
We help them understand and process circumstances that can threaten their athlete identity, and we teach them insight skills so they can regulate their emotions, adjust their thinking as situations evolve, and take strength from safe, secure relationships.
A strong, confident identity as an athlete provides a foundation for reliable elite performance and restores a sense of joy that flows from psychological freedom, even under pressure.
Working with Confluence, athletes don’t just enhance their performance; they return to themselves and rediscover the spirit of play.
From there, they have a foundation for sustainable, high-level execution and performance over time.
